TOMAS could be used with INTERNET, in
the following ways:
Automatic transfer of any information
from TOMAS or complete informationbase to predefined list of
web addresses and/or e-mail addresses.
managers and owners could have all relevant
information stored on their private e-mail address, regularly updated ...
... i.e. to have full insight into processes
and results, wherever they are
the security of database is unaffected, i.e.
there is no need for "firewall" etc.
all that, with negligible costs.
Direct work via INTERNET (on line work):
Hence, from users point
of view, there is no difference comparing to local use of TOMAS.
the computer with TOMAS must be an INTERNET
users work on personal computers, working
with the server with TOMAS
TELNET communication protocol is to be used.
Batch operations via INTERNET:
Computer with the TOMAS is not an INTERNET
Remote users work with personal computers
with the PC version of TOMAS in of line mode, i.e. as standalone systems.
At the end of the day, data entered in PC-TOMAS
are sent via INTERNET to address where all such a data are collected.
At the beginning of the day, collected data
from INTERNET are transferred to the computer where TOMAS is installed
and imported into database.
In the same way, from central installation
could be sent to remote personal computers:
updates of the database, e.g. new buyers,
products, price changes etc.
Combination of on line and batch mode
Anyhow, TOMAS operates exceptionally efficiently,
for it uses few communication and computer resources.
Remote users normally could work in
on line mode, i.e. via INTERNET connected to TOMAS. But,...
... in case of unsatisfactory response
or any difficulties with the communications, switch to local batch operations
and later send the data to central installation.
