Performance of TOMAS is far better than performance of any other system on the market.. In the same time, TOMAS costs are only fraction of the cost for comparative information system. Hence, the new quality of the system is achieved. Here, it is described how that has been achieved.
DATABASE AND PROGRAMS RESIDENT IN CENTRAL MEMORY
Since the beginning of 90-ties, computers
are using very large central memories. This trend continues, i.e. central
memory is all the time bigger, faster and cheaper.
This trend is used in the design of TOMAS, so that it operates in the following way:
Programs and complete user database
could be resident in central memory, as long as TOMAS is active. Hence,
complete operation is done between central memory and processor, so there
is no need to access disks.
Other solutions on the market keep the user database stored on disks and the speed of operation is largely limited by the speed of disks.
In this way, processing speed is increased cca 15 times (1.500%).
